It’s Thanksgiving, so it must be time to buy Christmas presents. Getting the jump on holiday madness usually is the key to a great shopping season – especially if your list includes a finicky golfer!
Despite knowing the mission borders on impossible, here are six “can’t miss’’ gifts in all price ranges that any wanna-be Tiger will cherish. (And to think, you’ve got 31 days, as well as Internet access, to get the job done.)
PROPLAY GPS VIDEO CAMERA
The mini-sports video camera fits in the palm of your hand yet can record your swing and play it back in high-definition quality on its screen, as well as your laptop computer or television set. If your golfer likes to go to the range (or look at himself), it’s the perfect present. Or if he wants to record every shot in his round at Pebble Beach, no problem, as ProPlay is so convenient it goes anywhere. Invented by Chandler’s Marcus Bohn, a finalist on The Golf Channel’s “Fore Inventors Only,’’ the ProPlay Golf Performance System is the ultimate holiday gift at $399. To order, visit www.proplaygps.com.
SUN MOUTAIN RAINFLEX HD JACKET
So you don’t need a rain jacket in the East Valley because it never rains. Well, the beauty of the RainFlex HD is that it “breathes,’’ so it’s perfect for cold as well as rain. In fact, it’s so revolutionary that you can pour a glass of water on it and the H2O will pool and never penetrate. If you’re sick of sweating in cumbersome golf outerwear, this jacket is the best. Why else would Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson wear it and not get paid to do so? Believe it or not, other pros are putting their Polo logos on it, too. Yeah, it’s that good! The HD jacket costs $225 and can be purchased at www.sunmountain.com.
FOURSOME AT THE TPC CHAMPIONS
The new course at the TPC Scottsdale, the Champions Course, opens Friday after architect Randy Heckenkemper recently completed a 10-month, $12 million renovation project on the old TPC Desert Course. The new 18 holes follow a similar routing but have been enhanced and upgraded to the point where it’s all about the new digs. The greens are completely, and with stately 20-year-old pines and cottonwoods, the new layout looks like it’s been there for years. Green fees are $40 to walk and $61 to ride. To book a tee time, visit www.tpc/scottsdale.com.
‘WHERE GOLF IS GREAT’
If your golfer loves links golf in Scotland and Ireland you must get him or her the new book “Where Golf is Great’’ by James W. Finegan ($60.00, Artisan Books). Over 170 of the best are covered thoroughly and brilliantly in perhaps the most  awesome  coffee table-styled golf book ever. From well-known courses like Ballybunion and St. Andrews to sleepers like Cork and Carne, it’s all there from the golf to where to stay to where to dine. The book, at 528 pages, weighs almost 10 pounds and contains 750 incredible color photos. To order, visit www.artisanbooks.com.
BEYOND COASTAL SUNCARE
If money is an issue -- but the love it not -- get your golfer any of the fabulous products from Beyond Coastal Sun Care, which are guaranteed to stop UVA and UVB rays while nourishing the skin. Dermatologists agree that you’ll do better with Beyond Coastal’s products, which are hypo-allergenic, parabens-free and oil-free.  Whether it’s sunblock, mineral-based sunscreen, sun moisturizer, lip balm, face balm or even baby sunscreen, Beyond Coastal has got you covered with products that range in price from $5 to $18. To purchase, visit www.beyondcoastal.com.
  DRYMAX GOLF SOCKS
Obviously, a lot of people give and get socks for Christmas, but here are a pair that dare to be “just for golf.’’ The Drymax Golf Socks are designed with two different fiber technologies interwoven to form a light-weight, dual-layer sock. This advanced design creates a self-contained moisture-removal system. Or as the company’s slogan goes: Drymax socks need NO drying time; they dry at the speed of sweat.’’ The socks, which cost $8 to $10 a pair, also keep feet warmer than usual at this time of year. To sock it to ’em, baby, visit www.drymaxsports.com.
