Right about now, the kids are getting a little restless in regards to summertime. The TV shows are starting to get boring, the video games are causing cramps (brain and hand), and reading books only entertains so far.

Even though temperatures outside are higher than most kids’ golf scores, the opportunities to get out and learn the game never has been greater.

What’s cool is that there are safe and healthy golf opportunities for every kid at every level. And if you use the standard precautions – a hat, light clothing, sunscreen and plenty of water – here are four opportunities to fit every need:

FIRST TEE ‘TINY TEEZ’

This new program from the First Tee of Phoenix starts Friday and is designed specifically for youth ages 3 to 6 who have an interest in playing golf. The focus of Tiny Teez is to teach golf through fun drills and other games that entertain the younger mind.

“The Tiny Teez’’ program is a great opportunity to learn about the game of golf in a fun and affordable way,’’ said Hugh Smith, the executive director of the First Tee of Phoenix.

Affordable means “free,’’ and the commitment also is quite easy, as classes meet twice a month on Fridays. Besides learning to hit the golf ball, kids will learn about the etiquette and rules. For information, visit www.thefirstteephonenix.org.

GOLF DIGEST SCHOOLS

For the first time ever, Golf Digest Schools at Legend Trail Golf Club in Scottsdale are offering summer golf for kids between the ages of 4-17 at a price to fit everyone’s budget.

Saturday clinics, which cost $20 per session, start at 9 a.m. for beginners and 10 a.m. for experienced players. The performance academy, which includes eight hours of instruction, costs $100 and includes exercise routines, two nine-hole tournaments, instruction, practice and lunch. The five-day camps go from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m., and include all of the above at a cost of $200. In addition, kids can play for 50 percent off green fees. For information, visit www.legendtrailgc.com.

JGAA LINKSTERS

The Junior Golf Association of Arizona has three offerings under its Linkster brand: six-week clinics at $72 per session or $48 for a four-week session; a play with the pros program, which costs $90 for six weeks or $60 for four weeks; and family golf (prices vary according to the course).

In the East Valley, participating clubs include Apache Creek Golf Club, Mountain Shadows Golf Club in Paradise Valley, Paradise Valley Golf Course, and Shalimar Golf Club and the ASU Karsten driving range in Tempe. For information, visit www.jgaa.org.

TOUR ACADEMY-TPC SCOTTSDALE

The newly created Tour Academy at the TPC of Scottsdale is offering golf camps for juniors during three different sessions – July 9-12, July 23-26 and August 6-9. The camps, which cost $199, include refreshments, hat, towel and a graduation ceremony/pizza party.

All campers are taught full-swing and short-game principles along with the rules and etiquette of the game. Open to children between the ages of 7 and 14, campers must sign up through the City of Scottsdale, (480) 312-7957. For information, visit www.PGATOURExperiences.com.
