Imagine a summer golf pass where you get the lowest green fee possible at 12 of the Valley’s top courses as well as discounts of 10 to 30 percent at over 500 of the area’s best restaurants. And, you get to try it out absolutely free for the month of May.

Sound too to be true? It’s not for those who choose to “test drive’’ the new Festiva-Epic Card.

According to Bob Johnson, the president of Epic Golf out of Jacksonville, Fla., the Valley’s newest golf and dining membership is guaranteed to be “hassle-free.’’

“It’s much more service-oriented than any golf pass before it because all you do is swipe a card and receive your discount,’’ said Johnson, who has teamed up with Phoenix-based Festiva, a Valley-wide membership card that offers dining and entertainment values.

“The Festiva-Epic Card is a more upscale pass than anything that’s out there. It’s got built-in flexibility, where you don’t have to worry about things like getting an advanced tee time or having to cut out coupons. And, we’re the first to offer a loyalty rewards program, where if you play 10 rounds you get your next round free.’’

While the quality of golf is a big part of the Festiva-Epic Card, the dining element is just as key, Johnson added.

“The restaurants are a very strong part of the card, because, obviously, everybody has to eat.’’

East Valley golfers might be the biggest benefactors of the Fesitva-Epic Card because seven of its 12 member clubs are located within a 30-minute drive. They include Gold Canyon Golf Resort, Ocotillo Golf Resort, Dove Valley Ranch, the Pointe at Lookout Mountain, Las Sendas, the Raven at South Mountain and Alta Mesa Country Club, the only private offering on the pass.

Other courses include The Wigwam in Litchfield Park, Los Cabelleros in Wickenburg, and the Sun City Grand trio of Desert Springs, Granite Falls and Cimmarron.

Golfers from the East Valley also will have easy access to such member restaurants as the Armadillo Grill, Alice Cooperstown, Barcelona, Blue Wasabi, Chevys, Earl’s, Eli’s, Four Peaks Brewery, 56 East, 98 South, Malee’s, the Melting Pot, RigaTony’s, and Teakwoods, to name a few.

“It’s more than a golf card,’’ Johnson explained. “It’s really about quality relationships for our members when it comes to golf and dining, and no one has ever put the two together before.’’

Just as unique, Johnson added, is that the price of the all-in-one card, which is $199 for an individual or $149 for two or more, will be basically refunded with an equal amount ($199 or $149) of restaurant certificates.

“These aren’t two-for-one coupons, either,’’ Johnson noted. “They’re just gift certificates that reduce your bill accordingly, so that our members will get their cards essentially for free.’’

The Festiva-Epic program runs from May 1 through Oct. 31, although Johnson said there are plans in the works to offer a year-round version of the card starting this fall.
